our story
Your Neighborhood Burger Joint
When thinking about what was important to bring into his new restaurant, our founder John Haire recalled his fond memories of summer nights spent on his grandfather’s farm, swimming and fishing until he was called in for supper. It was those meals, the ones meant for storytelling and belly laughs, where everyone had a seat, that really resonated. So, in a nod to John’s grandfather, this community-centric spot was named “Heavy’s.” This nickname was earned from family and friends in his hometown in North-West Florida. Heavy was involved in schools, his church, farming, and helping families in his community, but he was also known to sneak away for a mid-week card game with his poker buddies. That commitment to serve really good food, be kind and attentive to guests, and be a contributor to the neighborhood, which Heavy lived every day, is central to how we operate at our restaurants.
our FOOD
Heavy’s kitchen is focused on making everything fresh, daily. Smashburgers are made with our proprietary blend of Angus short rib, brisket, and chuck roll. Fried Chicken is marinated in buttermilk after taking a long bath in a brine of saltwater and sugar. We always use fresh, local produce when it’s in season and most flavorful. Our salads are fresh-cut, creative, and full of all the good stuff. And to finish it up, the Lemon Lime Icebox Pie is a delicious, good-for-your-soul kind of way to end any meal!
Beyond great food, we also serve up some incredibly tasty drinks! Behind the bar, Heavy’s bartenders are shakin’ margaritas with an extensive line-up of tequila & fresh squeezed juices. Every draft beer is a local brew made around these parts.
our VIBE
Making delicious food is, of course, our first priority, but there’s more to a restaurant than creating a perfectly hot/slightly crispy/melty smashburger. We are intentional about creating a vibey neighborhood joint where good people come for a good time. One crucial ingredient is the playlist. Our vintage sound system fills the room with a playlist that ranges from Prince to Bob Marley, the Doobie Brothers to Pat Benatar, Van Halen to Chris Stapleton. Whatever feels right. Sound good to you? Come on by - we’re waiting for you!
